Natura and Matilde: Friendly Neighbors Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Natura is a company in personal care, health care and make-up industry in Brazil. In the early 1990s, as part of their "good corporate neighbor" policy, the company has made sporadic contributions to the communities surrounding its plants and offices. Natura collaboration with Mary Matilda Cremm public schools located near its factory Itapecerica da Serra, followed that pattern as well. By 1992, the association had all the characteristics of traditional charity collaboration, consisting of cash and in-kind contributions made by the company to respond to the specific needs of the school. However, the management of Natura was not satisfied and said company contributions patronizing. They appealed to his fellow school to offer a new kind of relationship that will provide a deeper and more lasting results. Both partners want the school to become an agent of change in society. They sought help CENPEC, civil society organizations dedicated to strengthening public education.
