Living PlanIT Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Living PlanIT is a start-up company that has developed a new and innovative business models for sustainable urbanization. This model reflects the software and technology backgrounds of its founders, Steve Lewis and Malcolm Hutchinson, and is in vivid contrast to the other models for the green and smart cities that are variations on a massive real estate development project. The main economic engine Living PlanIT is a model of a channel partner strategy borrowed from the high-tech industry. The case shows how the business model of Living PlanIT has evolved from the original vision of the Lewis and Hutchinson to radically change the construction industry to market the partnership model using real estate as a "show" for developing sustainable urban technology - $ 3 trillion global market in the next 20 years. Living PlanIT is developing its first project, a new town called PlanIT Valley, outside of Porto, Portugal. The company explained the vision and moves into the phase of implementation, which includes the collection of funds, registration of trade partners and negotiate various issues with the Portuguese government for the pilot project. Success in PlanIT Valley will result in a strong market position as the world's population and increased demand for new cities, especially in developing countries such as China and India.
