Japan Net Bank: Japans First Internet-Only Bank Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Japan Net Bank (JNB), the first Internet bank in Japan with no physical branches, was launched in October 2000. It attracts mostly young customers looking for a comfortable, non-stop banking services with much more competitive interest rates and transaction costs than traditional Japanese banks. Its channels enabled mobile Internet access I-MODE and fixed Internet. JNB to rely on flexible, open computer systems and small, young labor force in order to minimize operating costs. Its shareholders, including the parent company Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and NTT DoCoMo (ISP I-MODE), were all large companies from various industries. As of April 2001, JNB had 130,000 customers.
