Daimler-Benz A.G.: Negotiations Between Daimler and Chrysler Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

This case can be carried alone or used as a merger negotiation exercise with the "Chrysler Corporation: Negotiations between Daimler and Chrysler" (UV0085). Set in February 1998, it puts students in the position of negotiating for the company, their mission is the value of both companies, to assess the potential dilution of earnings combinations and negotiate details of the agreement with their counterpart. Case can be used to study such interesting questions negotiations as determining the share exchange ratio, the treatment of major shareholders, and structuring the transaction. In addition, the case and the exercise can be used to spark discussion of acquisition compared to a strategic alliance, or other less formal models of the combination.
