In April 1987, the management team CFM International, Inc (CFMI) is considering the development of a new jet engine for the Airbus A340. Engine removal competitor created unexpected opportunities to re-enter the competition CFMI he apparently lost a few months ago. Complicating the decision was the fact that CFMI Corporation was jointly and equally owned by General Electric (USA) and Societe Nationale d'Etude et de Construction de Moteurs d'Aviation and Snecma (France), both of which had to approve any new program .
