Academy of National Economy Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

In 1989, the Soviet government appointed academician Abel Aganbegyan at the Academy of National Economy, as rector. Since its founding by the Soviet government in 1977, the school has educated several top managers of the Soviet economy. Since 1992, after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the beginning of democratic reforms, the academy began her own transformation in the business of the university. The Academy is searching for a new direction strategy for its further evolution. The school management must address both internal and external challenges and to rise to the challenge of competitive Russian market of business education. The most important issue for the management of the Academy to review its mission and the status quo. There are three main options: to continue to be associated with the state elite of the state educational and scientific center with a group of relatively autonomous business schools, apart from these independent schools and to redefine its mission in the public educational and research institutions linked to the government, or to encourage the separation of business schools and try to turn it into a Western-style business school.
